Book Boxes...

This Box reproduces a box making attelier. It was the first box in the shape of a book that I learned to make and the first painstaking attempt at binding small books and making tiny boxes. It was a lot of fun and I still add the odd new box or book occasinally. Credit to my teacher, Riet Terreehorst, who patiently explained how to work on such a small scale (click here to see her miniature book) and to my husband who helped with some of the wood work.
This is my tribute to a mask shop in Venice! It is my rendition of a back street "maschere" store filled to the ceiling with hand made models. All these masks are copies of authentic maskes worn during the Carnevale di Venezia every year. Details include a little box with maps of the city. books with the history of the carneval characters and hand held masks for those more flirtatious .
